Your Church +Portland

To Everyone Dealing with Life's Crap

I want to give a special shout out to you today for reading my blog and for being a part of what I think is the greatest movement on earth – Your Church! I’m thankful for what’s happening in this church and for the great things in store for us ahead. It’s fun doing church the way we are doing it and it’s awesome to be a part of something God is doing here in the Northwest. Thanks for your support!

If there’s one thing I’ve learned in life it’s to never give up on yourself.  We’ve all done stupid things or things we regret but I’m talking about when it feels like life is against you on every turn no matter how hard you try. When it seems like no matter how many steps forward you take you lose more than you took. Sound familiar? Days like that are a mental challenge in which one can easily lose perspective and the will to keep moving.  Believe me, I’ve had my share! The fact of the matter is, in times when life is bigger than life you’ve got to remind yourself of who you are, and whose you are. First of all, we belong to God. God didn’t make us a failure nor does He take pleasure in seeing us suffer. If you have ever felt like God was somehow ‘in’ on having you suffer, take heart, both Job and Paul thought the same too. Both Job and Paul were facing life threatening issues with outcomes that were anything but favorable. Job blamed it all on God, however God royally kicked Job’s butt in Job 38 for thinking that way and revealed to Job that his philosophy was rooted in pride and self preservation – ouch! As for Paul, Jesus told him that He wasn’t going to remove the problem from his life but instead had given him the supernatural ability to walk through it by telling him, “My Grace is sufficient for you.” In other words, you can do this!

Secondly, you can’t give up on yourself. You can’t let what others say or do, or what your brain says about you be the final say in the matter. I’ve learned that no matter how much God’s grace is there to push you through, no matter how much Heaven is cheering you on you will never feel that oomph from Heaven until one makes the decision to keep pushing onward. Believe me, it’s phenomenal to have someone there who loves you and stands with you when you’re going through it, but at the end of the day it’s still up to you/us to not give up on ourselves. I’ve found for myself that it starts with believing what God says about me to be what is truth. Things like, you’re one of a kind, handcrafted by God Himself. That you are God’s poem, His masterpiece. You’re favored. The God who created the universe is proud of you. He purposely placed within your spirit a dream when you were conceived. It’s a dream not given to anyone else but you. Only you have the ability to accomplish that dream. God even gave you a unique personality to assist you in accomplishing the dream. He uniquely set you apart from being anybody else in order to complete that dream. He placed within you a spirit that wins, a spirit that fights. He is for you and let it be known that nobody can stop you – but you. That means it’s our choice. It’s our choice to see things as the end or to see them as the beginning. It’s our choice to push past the barrage of mental inadequacy in order to go deep into our spirit and find the real you – a winner. It’s having faith in what God says about us to be true. That’s what gets your confidence back up and that’s where the ‘win’ begins. On the inside. The real you.

Never let an hour ruin your day, or a day ruin your week. Never let a person ruin your life. Forgive others and forgive yourself. You’ve got more future ahead of you than the past behind you.

Have a great week!
