Your Church +Portland

Year 1 of +Hillsboro

It’s hard to believe that Your Church +Hillsboro is coming up on its 1 year anniversary. We've had tremendous success for a brand new-from-scratch church start here in Hillsboro, Oregon.
From the cold, blistery, 16 inches of snow starting on February 9th having two precious elderly ladies attending - to a room full of 50 people at the end of 2014, it would be safe to say the message is getting out – we came to Oregon to do church!
Even though our year came full of many twists and turns with highs and lows, our momentum, our team and our faith has grown. I am looking forward to all that is in store for us in year 2 and for all that God has planned in advance to do through us.

As we embark on our second year, I believe that Your Church +Hillsboro will become more defined in its mission and goal as an autonomous entity of Your Church +Portland. I desire that every one of the 49 new churches that begin through Your Church +Portland be individual places of worship having their own centralized focus and goals. What will stay unified within each church start will be our vision and purpose. Our vision is to bring the love of Jesus to the hungry and hurting.
I don’t believe there's a single one of us who won’t reach a time in our lives whereby we are hungry for something greater than we can fill; or hurting with a pain deeper than we can imagine. It’s the kind of hunger only God can fill. The kind of pain only Jesus can heal. That’s what I believe Your Church is here for. Our purpose is to create an environment for people that is comfortable enough to come as they are, and enjoy themselves. It’s a place they can laugh, talk and be real amongst friends. Best of all it’s a place where God is known and where freedom begins. That’s what makes us Your Church.

For every one who supported us through year one with prayer – thank you! For everyone who supported us financially and never quit – thank you! For all those who made Your Church +Hillsboro your home church, believing together we could do it, and became part of this great team – thank you! To Arnie, Cindy and Melody Torio for being God-inspired to move 2000 miles just to be a part of something bigger – thank you! And last but not least, for everyone who held my hand and showed me what true friends are like – thank you!
So at the risk of sounding cliché and cheesy, I coin the phrase from an old Southern gospel song that said, “I just feel like something good is about to happen.” I believe this for Your Church in year two, and I believe it for you. We stand on the threshold of our best days being ahead of us. We aren’t those that quit, back up, let up, or give up.
Oh, and for those who thought we were done – we're just getting started!

2 Corinthians 4:16-18 (The Message): "16 So we're not giving up. How could we! Even though on the outside it often looks like things are falling apart on us, on the inside, where God is making new life, not a day goes by without his unfolding grace. 17 These hard times are small potatoes compared to the coming good times, the lavish celebration prepared for us. 18 There's far more here than meets the eye. The things we see now are here today, gone tomorrow. But the things we can't see now will last forever."
