Your Church +Portland

Welcome to Year 3!

It's hard to believe that it's been 2 years since the day we launched this church! I'll never forget the excitement surrounding that day nor how much snow covered the ground. It was called the 10 year snowstorm with over 2 feet of snow having fallen in 24 hours! I knew that all the money we sunk into our mailer and advertising our launch day was going to be a wash, but I just hoped that somebody would show up besides us! Nonetheless two elderly ladies from the neighborhood trudged through the deep snow to show up and see what God was doing in a bar and grill! It was great. Over the next 52 weeks over 100 people spent that precious hour with us and one by one Your Church began to grow. That first year also brought some dramatic changes to my life and the church which made our second year to be a year of bonding together. While our numbers may not have grown substantially, despite our challenges our faith has definitely grown! We are so blessed each week to have a great relationship with the owner and staff of Coyote's Bar and Grill. Valued at over $400/night they continue to allow us to hold Your Church every Sunday night- all for free. Not to mention they treat us amazingly! Amidst the small bumps in the road that come with relationships, Your Church spent the past year bonding together through our monthly house parties, delivering flyers, serving those in need and sometimes spending 2-3 hours on a Sunday night playing pool and getting to know each other better.

I wanted to share a verse with you that I came across a few weeks ago that I think speaks of Your Church:

Hosea 6:2 (NKJV)
2 After two days He will revive us; On the third day He will raise us up, that we may live in His sight.

When I read this it meant something to me regarding Your Church. For our reference, the days Hosea refers to are years. After 2 years, the Lord will revive Your Church. As we concluded our 2nd year, I see this reviving happening both in my heart and in the church. These past 2 months I feel like I got my life back - but better than I've ever known before! Hosea writes that on the third day (year) the Lord will raise us up. That phrase, 'raise us up' means to accomplish, confirm, make clear, to lift up again, establish and succeed. The Lord is going to cause Your Church to have an incredibly successful 3rd year! That I really believe.

Thank you to all those who continue to lift myself and this ministry up in prayer. We couldn't do it without your help. For all those here in Portland, the US and Canada who have supported us financially - thank you! I'm grateful to have the support of an incredibly wonderful wife and the
greatest son and daughter who believe in me and all that God is doing here. Thank you to the Your Church team who faithfully make Sundays happen and special thanks to all of you whom I call friend - you are real friends who lay down their lives for another!

Welcome to year 3!
